In 2020, Nord Stream AG transported 59.2 billion cubic metres (bcm) of natural gas to consumers in Europe through the Nord Stream Pipeline. The pipeline was utilised at a marginally higher level compared to that of the previous years, thus, the gas volume transported in 2020 represents the historically highest mark since the start of operations.

By the end of 2020, the pipeline had transported a total volume of circa 382 bcm of gas since Line 1 of the pipeline was commissioned in 2011. Nord Stream’s important contribution to the security of energy supply in Europe was confirmed one more time in May 2020 when the German Federal Network Agency granted a derogation from the application of the primary provisions of the EU Gas Directive.

The highest priority for Nord Stream AG is to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the Nord Stream twin pipeline. In 2020, scheduled maintenance and inspection works of the pipeline have been performed in accordance with strict industry standards despite the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
